#6 Verona - Padova (112 km)

Castles, Architects, Scholars and Spritz

Verona – Vicenza (71 km)

Leave Piazza Bra (km 0), exit Verona and its Shakespearean walls.

Cross a canal and follow River Adige fields till the sunny Villa Buri: overpass the highway in San Martino Buon Albergo (km 11) and make a zig-zag across vineyards and greenhouses till Soave (km 30): taste a glass of the homonymous wine.

You are now crossing a pleasant valley, whose facing castles inspired the legend of Montagues and Capulets: this is specially true in Montecchio Maggiore (km 54). You are now approaching Vicenza (km 70)a noble city, sleepy and honourable.

Vicenza is a pleasure for the sight: enjoy the several architectures of its most famous citizen, Andrea Palladio, and take your time to visit the Teatro Olimpicoa UNESCO site, the first modern indoor theatre in the world.

Vicenza – Padova (41 km)

Move forward, and follow the winding Bacchiglione River till Bugano and Longare (km 81): after few miles you will cross the cycleroute Treviso-Ostiglia in Colzé (km 85).  This long route connects Treviso (Km 50) and Po River (km 68), it was once a railway and it risked becoming a highway. Thanks to FIAB Onlus, we can now cycle it.

Follow and cross the Bacchiglione river many times, in Montegaldella (km 89), Cervarese (km 92) and Selvazzano Dentro (km 98). Just few miles southward there are the Colli Euganei: gentle hills with thermal benefits, like Abano Terme.

Finally, after the Airport of Padua, the river will lead you to the feet of the vibrant Padua (km 112): students are all around, since Padova owns one of the oldest universities in Europe. Enjoy the arcades of the medieval town, the famous Prato della Valle and book in advance a visit to Giotto’s Cappella degli Scrovegni: it is unforgettable!
